Peer Review of Radiologist Performance
Peer review is a potent quality assurance tool that helps decision makers understand the nature and frequency of diagnostic errors and improve the quality and performance of radiology departments. Moreover, having an acceptable peer-review program is mandated by regulatory bodies such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as a prerequisite to accreditation.
Telemed Providers has a lot to offer in the field of peer review. We have built strong relationships with many teleradiology companies, radiology departments and radiology groups that have already gone through ACR and JCAHO accreditation and know a great deal about the process. If you are considering adopting a peer-review program for accreditation purposes, we are in an excellent position to guide you through meeting the different requirements in the most straightforward and cost-efficient ways.
If your radiology department or group already employs a peer-review program and you would like to add credibility to the process through engaging the services of outside radiologists with world-class qualifications, we can definitely help. Our Radiologists are used to the peer-review system including scoring and peer review can easily be incorporated into the normal radiologist workflow at the client’s request. For example, if you send a study for an over-read, you will not only get a full report but also the radiologist’s scoring of the initial interpretation, provided of course it was provided with the study. Also, at the request of the client, a separate discrepancy report can be issued when such is needed detailing the reasons why the radiologist thinks a diagnostic error has been made. Submitting studies and reports for the sole purpose of peer review without the need for a new report is also possible.
If you would like to start a peer-review program in your radiology department or group and all you need is advice regarding program setup, software needed, scoring systems, etc., we also provide project consultations. Our experience and advice can help you set up an effective peer-review program which will enhance the quality of radiology interpretations in your department at the lowest possible cost and with minimal interruption to normal workflow.
