Home What is Teleradiology
What is Teleradiology?

Teleradiology is the electronic transmission of medical imaging studies (CT, MRI, XR, ….etc.) from one location to another making them available for interpretation/consultation by radiologists who are not present locally in the region where the patient was scanned. Using the telecommunication technology, radiologists are no longer needed to be present within the same department, hospital, or even country with the patient.

Instead of having the radiological images printed on hard films, images viewing, portability and accessibility are made available using cutting-edge technologies like PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) standards and EMR (Electronic Medical Records).

Statistics show that there is an annual increase in the imaging procedures reaching about 15% that is unmatched with the increase in the numbers of the radiologists which is still about 2% and in such situation Teleradiology provides the ultimate solution for the problem of progressive shortage of enough radiologists especially when highly subspecialty consultations are needed.
